The second national Gender Equality Index in North Macedonia was released yesterday in Skopje. The index was developed by the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy and the State Statistical Office in cooperation with the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE).
In the presence of a large number of guests, speeches were given by the Minister of Labour and Social Policy, Ms. Jovanka Trenchevska, the Director of the State Statistical Office, Mr. Apostol Simovski, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Sweden in North Macedonia, H.E. Ms. Ami Larsson Jain, as well as representatives of the European Institute for Gender Equality and the UN Women Office in Skopje.
The Gender Equality Index is a tool for measuring the progress of gender equality in the EU member states and candidate countries and allows to determine the areas where improvement is necessary in order to create better and more effective measures to promote gender equality.
The Gender Equality Index in North Macedonia in 2022 is 64.5 out of a maximum score of 100, which is an improvement of 2.5 points compared to the last measurement in 2019.
