According to the State Statistical Office data, obtained with the Census of school premises of primary and lower secondary and upper secondary schools in the Republic of Macedonia, in 2016, the number of primary and secondary schools was 1205. For clarification, the total number of 1205 schools includes 370 central primary schools and 119 central secondary schools, while of the total of 716 regional schools, 708 are regional primary schools, and 8 are regional secondary schools. According to the statistical methodology as a schools are considered central schools and regional schools as local units.
