Thirteenth meeting of the Subcommittee on Economic and Financial Issues and Statistics under the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Macedonia

 The 13th meeting of the Subcommittee on Economic and Financial Issues and Statistics under the Stabilisation and Association Agreement between the European Union and the Republic of Macedonia took place yesterday.

In accordance with the scope of work of the Subcommittee, the agenda included the following areas: economic and monetary developments in the Republic of Macedonia and in the EU; relations of the Republic of Macedonia with international financial institutions; overview the labour market situation; free movement of capital, financial control; statistics, as well as pre-accession issues - Economic Reform Programme (ERP) and financial cooperation with the EU.

Participants from the State Statistical Office were the Director of the State Statistical Office, Ms. Lidija Kostovska, and the Deputy Director of the State Statistical Office, Mr. Dejan Stankov.

The State Statistical Office emphasised the progress made in the field of statistics, particularly in relation to:

  • improving the statistical infrastructure and enhancing the quality of the resources of the SSO,
  • progress in the area of statistical classifications and registers,
  • improving the quality of data,
  • examination of the quality of administrative sources in order to increase the use of data from administrative sources for statistical purposes,
  • further implementation of ESA 2010 in accordance with the deadlines of the Action Plan adopted in collaboration between the three institutions (SSO, National Bank of the Republic of Macedonia and Ministry of Finance),
  • progress in the area of sectoral statistics,
  • increasing the transparency and availability of data and modernisation of data dissemination,
  • increasing the volume of produced statistical data and indicators,
  • improving the method of data collection by greater utilisation of the detailed metadata-driven system for online data collection based on web forms (eStat) at the SSO,
  • activities for increasing the number of timely delivered data sets to Eurostat.
