In the period from 17 to 21 September 2018, an expert mission was conducted in Skopje to provide technical assistance to the State Statistical Office (SSO) for the promotion of population data, including the Census, supported by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA).
The mission was led by Mr. Werner Haug, an international expert on population and population censuses, and the Director of the SSO, Mr. Apostol Simovski, the Deputy Director of the SSO, Mr. Zirap Ademi, the Director of the UNFPA Office, Ms. Doina Bologa, and the Assistant Representative of the UNFPA Office in the Republic of Macedonia, Ms. Sonja Tanevska.
The purpose of the visit of the international expert was to inform the relevant representatives in the country and provide technical support, which envisages strengthening of the national capacities for collecting data on the population, analysis, dissemination and their use in development policies.
The State Statistical Office and the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding in July this year, for monitoring the progress in implementing national policies and strategies related to social inclusion and reproductive health of adolescents, women and men in the country, as well as other national and international commitments that are in line with the UN Sustainable Development Partnership for the period 2016-2020, signed by the Government and the UN team in the country.
