Meeting with the Director of Eurostat’s Directorate for Cooperation in the European Statistical System; International Cooperation and Resources in Eurostat

On 27.04.2018, the management of the State Statistical Office held a meeting with representatives of Eurostat, Mr. Pieter Everaers, Director of Eurostat’s Directorate for Cooperation in the European Statistical System; International Cooperation and Resources and Mr. Torbioern Carlquist, country officer for Macedonia. At the meeting, also participated Mr. Alessandro Zanotta, a representative of the Delegation of the European Union, responsible for monitoring of the harmonization of the statistics.

At the meeting, it was discussed regarding the progress of Macedonian official statistics in the harmonisation with the statistics of the European Union, noticed in the last report of the European Commission, as well as the main recommendations of the report, to which the Office should particular focus on during the coming year:

  • further strengthen human and financial resources;
  • to prepare for a new population and housing census, partially based on administrative data;
  • further align statistics with the ESA 2010 taking particular care of the delimitation of the general government sector as well as on transmitting a full set of tables for the Excessive Deficit Procedure to Eurostat.

Mr. Everaers, also held meetings and discussions with: the President of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia, Mr. Zoran Zaev, the Minister of Finance, Mr. Dragan Tevdovski and the Minister of Information Society and Administration, Mr. Damjan Manchevski.
At the meetings it was concluded that the commitment of the Government of the Republic of Macedonia is to guarantee the professionalism and independence of institutions such as the State Statistical Office and to direct the institutions to improve their work in accordance with European standards.

At the meeting with Mr. Zaev, also participated the EU Ambassador in Macedonia, H.E. Mr. Samuel Zbogar.
