According to the State Statistical Office data, in the Republic of North Macedonia there were 21 484 births, of which 21 333 live births and 151 stillbirths. In 2018, compared to the previous year, the number of live births decreased by 1.9%. The structure of live births by sex was dominated by boys with 52.4%, which means there were 110 boys per 100 girls.
By months, most (1973) live births were born in September.
According to the mothers’ age, most (34.1%) were live births to mothers at age 25-29 yaers.
The mean age of mothers at live births was 29.1 years, while the mean age of mothers at first births was 27.3 years.
Children were most frequently born to mothers from the 1990 birth cohorts.
In 2018 there was 19 live births registered to mothers aged under 15.
The number of illegitimate live births in 2018 was 2 587, which represents 12.1% of the total number of live births.
