Census of catering trade capacities (first results), 2016
Introduction
The Census of catering trade capacities was conducted in the period from 1 to 12 November 2016, in accordance with the Law on State Statistics ("Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia" No. 54/97, 21/2007, 51/11, 104/13, 42/14, 192/15 and 27/16) and the Programme of Statistical Surveys 2013-2017 ("Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia" No. 20/13, 24/14, 13/15 and 7/16).
This survey included every single catering trade capacity with its characteristics: location, activity, size of the capacity, number of employees, etc.
The enumeration of catering trade capacities in the Republic of Macedonia was conducted by the method of interview. The data collection was done by interviewers who were selected and trained by the State Statistical Office.
The Census methodology used is harmonised with Eurostat standards and adjusted to the current situation in the catering trade.
Units of observation and coverage
A catering establishment is considered to be every catering business unit where the guests enjoy any kind of catering service, for example: accommodation, food and beverages and other related services.
All catering establishments on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia, non-catering business entities that have a catering business unit in their structure, as well as independent catering stores, were taken into account in the Census of catering trade capacities.
Survey method
The Census of catering capacities on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia was carried out by method of interview.
Reference date
The reference date of the Census of catering trade capacities was 30 September 2016. This Census was carried out together with the Census of retail trade capacities.
