The total current health expenditures in the Republic of North Macedonia in 2020 amounted to 51 750 million denars and increased by 5.7% compared to 2019 (48 949 million denars).
All types of current health expenditures by health care functions and financing schemes in 2020 increased compared to 2019. The total expenditures on curative care in financing schemes were 28 445 million denars in 2020, while in 2019 they amounted to 27 657 million denars, which represents an increase of 2.8%.
In 2020, the expenditures of hospitals on curative care totalled 17 110 million denars, which is 84.0% of the total expenditures of hospitals by health care functions. In 2019, 16 412 million denars were spent by hospitals on curative care, or 87.2% of the total expenditures of hospitals by health care functions.
Of the health care providers, hospitals had the biggest share of expenditures with 20 361 million denars in 2020 and 18 818 million denars in 2019.
Government schemes and compulsory contributory health care financing schemes had the largest share in the current health expenditures, amounting to 31 337 million denars in 2020 and 29 556 million denars in 2019.
