According to the State Statistical Offce data and the classifcation of libraries, there are several types of libraries in the Republic of Macedonia, such as: national, libraries within tertiary education institutions, specialized libraries, non-specialized, libraries- national institutions and public (popular) libraries.
In 2010, compared with 2007, the number of libraries within tertiary institutions decreased by 5%.
The number of public libraries in 2010, compared with 2007, decreased by 22.1% due to the closure of local libraries.
