According to the State Statistical Office data, in the Republic of North Macedonia there were 19 167 births in 2020, of which 19 031 live births and 136 stillbirths. In 2020, compared to the previous year, the number of live births decreased by 4.1%. The structure of live births by sex was dominated by boys with 51.5%, which means there were 106.1 boys per 100 girls.
By months, most live births (1 835) were registered in July.
According to the mothers’ age, most (33.6%) were live births to mothers aged 25-29.
The mean age of mothers for all live births was 29.1 years, while the mean age of mothers at first birth was 27.5 years.
Children were most frequently born to mothers from the 1991 birth cohort.
In 2020, there were 19 live births registered to mothers aged under 15.
The number of live births outside marriage in 2020 was 2 466, which represents 13.0% of the total number of live births.
