Usage of information and communication technologies in households and by individuals, 2016

According to the data of the State Statistical Office, in the first quarter of 2016, 75.3% of the households had access to the Internet at home, which is six percentage points more in comparison with the same period in 2015. The participation of households with broadband connection in the total number of households increased from 69.0% in 2015 to 74.7% in 2016. Almost all (99.2%) of the households with Internet access had broadband (fixed or mobile) connection to the Internet. In the first quarter of 2016, 72% of the total population aged 15-74 used the Internet, and 61% used the Internet every day or almost every day. Mobile phone or a smart phone was the most used device for access to the Internet, by 81% of Internet users in this period, and mostly among persons aged 15-24 (92%). 77% of the Internet users in this period used a mobile phone or a smart phone for accessing the Internet away from home or work. Of the persons to have ever used the Internet, 19.3% ordered/bought goods or services over the Internet in the last 12 months, and the majority of them (55%) bought clothes or sports goods. Almost half (49%) of Internet users in the last 12 months did not provide any personal information on the Internet, while the most commonly provided personal information was contact information (37%) and personal details, such as name, date of birth, identity card number (33%).
