Retail Price Index and Consumer Price Index, May 2012

According to the State Statistical Office data, the Retail Price Index in May 2012, in comparison with the previous month, was 99.4, while the Consumer Price Index was 99.7. The decrease in the Consumer Price Index by 0.3% is a result of the lower indices of vegetables by 6.9%, eggs by 5.4%, fresh milk and alcoholic beverages by 0.3%. In May, there was also a decrease of the indices of oil derivatives by 3.6%, liquid fuels and gas by 3.5%, telecommunication services by 1.1%, materials for maintenance of the dwelling by 0.6% and means of education by 0.5%. An increase in the Consumer Price Index in May 2012, in comparison with the previous month, was registered in fruit by 8.9%, fish by 2.0%, processed fish by 1.5%, dry fruit by 0.6%, meat by 0.5%, processed meat by 0.4% and nonalcoholic beverages by 0.3%. In May, there was also an increase of the indices of medicines by 2.1%, footwear by 1.3%, household utensils and package holidays by 1.0%, accommodation services by 0.9%, household appliances and cosmetic products by 0.6%, personal care articles and passenger transport by 0.5%, clothing, services of personal care and food in restaurants and hotels by 0.2%. The Retail Price Index in May 2012, compared with May 2011, registered an increase by 2.8%, while the Consumer Price Index increased by 2.0%.
