According to the preliminary data of the State Statistical Office, the number of students in the regular primary and lower secondary schools at the end of the school 2008/2009 year was 215 078, which is a decrease of 2.6% compared to the previous school year.

The number of students in the regular upper secondary schools at the end of the school 2008/2009 year was 93 164, which is a minimal increase of 0.4% compared to the previous school year.
