Profile of child population in the Republic of North Macedonia,
2021
Tackling specific challenges faced by the child population in the Republic of North Macedonia requires an adequate base of knowledge based on which relevant and effective solutions would be designed. The implementation of the Census of Population, Households and Dwellings in September 2021 represents a unique opportunity to gain insights into various aspects of children’s lives in the country. In 2023, the UNICEF Office in the Republic of North Macedonia, in cooperation with the national partners, started establishing a database on children in the country with the aim of developing a demographic profile of the child population in North Macedonia. This report is the result of the analysis of the database in different areas. The information obtained through the analysis aims to identify areas where it is necessary to exert new or more intensive efforts to improve the quality of life of children. The establishing of the database and the analysis of the data took place in the period SeptemberDecember 2023. The main sources of information are the Census of Population, Households and Dwellings conducted in 2021, data from the vital statistics of the State Statistics Office (SSO), as well as administrative data on children in various areas collected by institutions that are part of the state statistical system (authorized holders) and are published within the framework of the Programme of Statistical Surveys 2018-2022.
