The Census of Population, Households and Dwellings in the Republic of North Macedonia was conducted in the period from September 5 to 30, 2021. After many delays and almost 20 years since the last Census in the country, this largest statistical operation was successfully carried out, which has an extraordinary significance for the development of the country and for creating our future and the future of the next generations.
The census was carried out according to all international recommendations with exclusive observance of the Recommendations for the 2020 Censuses of Population and Housing, prepared by the Economic Commission for Europe of the United Nations and Eurostat.
In accordance with the adopted Methodology for the implementation of the 2021 Census, for the first time in the country an enumeration was carried out with a combined method - using data from a Pre-Census database created for this purpose and direct data entry into laptops. This method allowed us to shorten the time required for enumeration, but also for faster data processing and their publication.
The results of the Census 2021 were announced on March 30, 2022, 6 months after the end of field activities and according to the dynamics foreseen in the Census Methodology.
All processed data from the Census have been published in the Makstat database of the State Statistical Office and will be published successively until the end of 2022.
We considered it necessary to present part of the data in a printed publication which in some way represents a continuity of the printed publications from the previous population censuses conducted on the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia.
This edition presents basic data on the population and its demographic, educational and economic characteristics, as well as basic data on households and dwellings in the Republic of North Macedonia, arranged in 22 tables.
We hope that this representative publication will be a good and useful read for all our users who will be able to get acquainted with the results of the Census of Population, Households and Dwellings in the Republic of North Macedonia, 2021.
