Methodological explanation for the news release:

Municipal waste

The data presented in the release were obtained through the statistical survey on municipal waste for 2014. The survey was carried out in 2009 (reference year 2008) for the first time, in accordance with the National legislation and European standards. The survey periodicity is annual.

Reporting units are the municipal enterprises in the Republic of Macedonia. Data on the total amount of collected municipal waste within the corresponding municipality, as well as data on the treatment of collected municipal waste, are obtained on the basis of the reports filled in by the reporting units.

On the basis of the obtained data and the data of the number of population, an estimation has been made of the total generated municipal waste on the territory of the Republic of Macedonia. The obtained indicator of the annual amount of municipal waste per person in kg is ratio of the total annual amount of generated municipal waste and the total number of population estimated for the reference year (as at 01.01.2012).
