Methodological explanation for the news release:

Balance of Coal

Sources of data collection

Sources of data collection for the annual report on coal are: Monthly surveys on energy Ene.2, Ene.3, Ene.6, Ene.7, Ene.9, Ene.13; Annual surveys on energy Ene.52, Ene.53, Ene.56, Ene.57, Ene.59, Ene.63, Annual surveys on forestry, Annual surveys on agriculture, Statistical survey on external trade, Estimation of consumption in households by energy commodities types.

Data scope

In the process of collecting data from the reporting units are used: the method of complete scope (for business subjects that perform production) and the sample method (for business subjects consumers of Coal).

Definitions

For defining the categories in the balance scheme is used the Annual questionnaire for Coal, 2009 from Eurostat, ECE/UN and IEA/OECD.

Hard Coal = Anthracite + Cooking Coal + Other Bituminous Coal

Lignite = Sub-Bituminous Coal + Brown Coal + Lignite + Peat

Import/Export represents quantity of Coal that entered/left the national territory.

Transformation input includes Coal consumed for conversion into another energy form (Heat and Electricity).

Public thermal power stations are plants for production of Electricity only.

Autoproducer thermal power stations are plants for combined production of Electricity and Heat.

Main Activity producer heat plants and Autoproducer heat plants are plants for production of Heat (for consumption by public and other sectors).

Available for final consumption is the energy available to final consumers.

Statistical difference = Available for final consumption - Final energy consumption

Consumption of Lignite = Transformation input + Available for final consumption

Calculation method

In the calculation of the separate Balances of Hard Coal, Lignite, Coke Oven Coke (total, by months) is used the methodology ‘’Energy Statistics Methodology Eurostat F4, 1998’’.

Classifications

In the distribution of the final consumption of Hard Coal, Lignite, Coke Oven Coke is used the National Classification of Activities of the Republic of Macedonia (Official Gazette No.09/2006).
