Methodological explanation for the news release:


Live births, deaths and migration by urban and rural areas and by regions


The data for live births, deaths and migration are base, distribution by urban and rural area, level NUTS (8 statistical regions) for certain demographic, economic, social and other topics.

Scope

Statistics of births comprise all live births and still births and statistics of deaths comprise all cases of death.

Statistics on migration cover those persons migrating within the Republic of Macedonia, departing from the Republic of Macedonia to other countries or arriving from other countries into the Republic of Macedonia.

Sourse of data

In accordance with the Law on Civil registration, the reporting units are Registrar Offices responsible for Registrar books of births and deaths - Ministry of Justice - Department for Civil registration.

Sources of data on the movement (migration) of the population are the immigration and emigration records obtained from the regional offices of the Ministry of Interior of the Republic of Macedonia.

Definitions

Live birth - is the complete expulsion or extraction from its mother of a product of conception irrespective of the duration og pregnancy, which after such separtion, breathes or shows any other evidence of live, such as beating of the heart, pulsation of the umbilical cord or definite movement of voluntary muscles, whether or not the umbilical cord has been cut or placenta is attached.

A deceased person - is every live birth person that showed permanent disappearance of all evidence of vital functions.

An infant death - is a child who died before completion the first year og age.

Natural increase - means the difference between live births and deaths for specific period of time.

Average age of mother at birth of total child - this indicator is a weighted arithmetic mean of the age, which shows how many years in average had mothers at birth (total number of live birth) in one calendar year.

Average age of mother at birth of first child - this indicator is a weighted arithmetic mean of the age, which shows how many years in average had mothers at first birth (first live births) in one calendar year.

Average age at death - this indicator is weighted arithmetic mean of the age of deaths in a given period (calendar year) and in a given territory.

Internal migration including changes of the place of permanent residence or stay in the Republic of Macedonia.

International migration including immigration of citizens having official place of residence in the Republic of Macedonia from abroad and emigration of citizens of the Republic of Macedonia abroad as well as foreigners.

Net migration of population is the difference between the number of immigrants and emigrants of a particular country in a given period of time.

Citizens of the Republic of Macedonia are persons with Makedonian citizenship and registered permanent and/or temporary residence/stay in Macedonia.

Citizens of the Republic of Macedonia, residents of Macedonia, are persons with Macedonia citizenship, counted as population of Macedonia.

Citizens of the Republic of Makedonia, not residents of Macedonia are persons with Macedonia citizenship and registered permanent and/or temporary residence in Macedonia who are not counted as population of Macedonia due to the length or intended length of their stay.

Foreigner is :
  • persons with foreign citizenship and permission for permanent or temporary residing in the Republic of Macedonia,
  • persons with foreign citizenship and valid work permit or business visa, who have a registered temporary residence in Republic of Macedonia,
  • persons without established citizenship or without citizenship, who have a registered permanent or temporary residence in Republic of Macedonia.
