Teachers and supporting staff in tertiary education institutions


Definitions

According to the Law on Tertiary Education (Official Gazette no. 35/2008):

Tertiary education is education related to educational programmes that are performed at universities and at autonomous tertiary institutions.

Tertiary institutions are: Universities and Higher schools. Tertiary institutions within the university are: faculties, art academies and higher schools.

University is the highest autonomous tertiary, scientific and art institution which provides the uniformity in performing and development of tertiary education, science, art and competence, and through its own units from different study fields transmits knowledge in several scientific and art disciplines.

Faculty is the tertiary education institution which performs educational, scientific, research or applied activity in study and scientific fields, according to study programmes in one or more related scientific, art or vocational spheres in the first, second and third cycle of studies.

Higher school is the tertiary educational institution which provides tertiary educational and art activity as vocational studies, specialist studies and applied activity in one or more mutualy related qualifications. Teachers and supporting staff are the persons that are carrying out education on the tertiary educational institutions. According to the educational-scientific titles they are: professors, associate professors, docents (at faculties); senior lecturer, lecturers and professors at higher school (at higher schools).

Higher school is the tertiary education institution which performs tertiary education and art activity as vocational studies, specialist studies and applied activity in one or more mutually related qualifications.

Teachers and supporting staff are the persons that are carrying out education in the tertiary education institutions. According to the academic titles they are:
  • professors, associate professors, docents (at faculties);
  • senior lecturers, lecturers and professors at higher school (at higher schools).
Coverage

In accordance with the methodology, the survey covers all faculties and higher schools within public and private tertiary institutions. In 2009/2010 the coverage is incomplete, due to not responding of several faculties.
