Methodological explanation for the news release:
Typology of agricultural holdings
Sources of data
For determining the type of farming and the economic size of agricultural holdings, data from the Census of Agriculture 2007 and standard output coefficients are used, which are calculated by the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Economy. Standard output coefficients are determined for the most important types of crop and livestock production included in the Census of Agriculture 20071 .
Definitions
The output of an agricultural characteristic means the monetary value of gross agricultural production at farm–gate price. The Standard output corresponds to a production period of 12 months (calendar year or agricultural production year) for one hectare of agricultural area or one head of livestock, for each agricultural characteristic. The total standard output of the agricultural holding corresponds to the sum of the values obtained for each characteristic by multiplying the standard outputs per unit by the number of corresponding units. The economic size of the agricultural holding is determined on the basis of the total standard output of the holding.
On the basis of the total standard output, the agricultural holdings are classified according to their economic potential in 14 economic size classes:
Class | Limits in euro2 | Class | Limits in euro2 | I | up to 1 999 euro | VIII | from 100 000 to 249 999 euro | II | from 2 000 to 3 999 euro | IX | from 250 000 to 499 999 euro | III | from 4 000 to 7 999 euro | X | from 500 000 to 749 999 euro | IV | from 8 000 to 14 999 euro | XI | from 750 000 to 999 999 euro | V | from 15 000 to 24 999 euro | XII | from 1 000 000 to 1 499 999 euro | VI | from 25 000 to 49 999 euro | XIII | from 1 500 000 to 2 999 999 euro | VII | from 50 000 to 99 999 euro | XIV | over 3 000 000 euro |
The type of farming of an agricultural holding is determined by the relative contribution of the standard output of the different characteristics of this holding to the total standard output of this one.
Depending on the amount of detail required, the types of farming are divided into:- general types of farming
- principal types of farming
- particular types of farming
This news release is prepared on the basis of general types of farming.
1 In the Republic of Macedonia the calculation of standard output coefficients does not cover: flowers and decorative plants, nurseries, seeds and seedlings, hares and poultry other than broilers and egg-laying hens. 2 For converting in MKD the average exchange rate of NBRM for the reference period is used.
