Natality in the Republic of North Macedonia, 2019


According to the State Statistical Office data in the Republic of North Macedonia there were 19 986 births, of which 19 845 live births and 141 stillbirths. In 2019, compared to the previous year, the number of live births decreased by 7.0%. The structure of live births by sex was dominated by boys with 51.8%, which means there were 107.4 boys per 100 girls.

By months, most live births (1 851) were registered in July.

According to the mothers’ age, most (33.9%) were live births to mothers at age 25-29 years.

The mean age of mothers for all live births was 29.2 years, while the mean age of mothers at first births was 27.5 years.

Children were most frequently born to mothers from the 1991 birth cohorts.

In 2019 there were 16 live births registered to mothers aged under 15.

The number of illegitimate live births in 2019 was 2 454, which represents 13.4% of the total number of live births.
