Census of capacities in retail trade, 2016 - First results

The Census of capacities in retail trade was conducted together with the Census of capacities in catering trade, in the period from
1 to 12 November 2016 on the whole territory of the Republic of Macedonia. The aim of the Census was to obtain data on the
number and type of retail trade stores, trade activity of the stores, sales area of the retail trade stores, their storage space, and
data on the number of employees.
The total number of enumerated retail trade capacities in the Republic of Macedonia is 18 749. Of these, 18 266 are retail trade
stores (all types) and 483 are gas stations. The highest concentration of retail trade capacities (all types of stores and gas stations)
is in the Skopje Region, 23.8%. Analysed by municipalities, the highest concentration of retail trade capacities is in: Tetovo 8.1%,
Kumanovo 6.9%, Bitola 6.1%, Prilep 5.4%, Centar 5.3%, Strumica 4.4%, Gostivar 4.0% Chair 3.9%, Ohrid 3.8%, Veles 3.4% and
Struga 3.3%. More than half of the retail trade capacities (54.6%) are concentrated on the territory of these municipalities.
