Travels of the domestic population,
2016
The survey on the travels of the domestic population is conducted periodically, every fifth year, by the State Statistical
Office in accordance with the Programme for Statistical Surveys 2013-2017 ("Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia"
No. 20/2013, 24/2014, 13/2015, 07/2016 and 50/2017).
The survey is conducted according to the methodological recommendations on tourism statistics of the World Tourism
Organization, Eurostat and the United Nations. This survey covered 2 634 interviewed persons in 773 households.
Presented in this publication are data on the travels and tourism expenditures of the domestic population during
2016, as important indicators for estimation of the tourism consumption. The data presented in this publication are
comparable with the previously published ones.
The publication contains data on business travels, same-day visits (excursions), several-day trips and annual
vacations. The data are published at the level of the Republic of Macedonia - in total and separately for the travels made
in the country and abroad.
The distribution of the interviewed persons and of the costs is made according to the social characteristics and the
age, according to the purpose of the trip, the type of transport vehicle, the income amount, etc. The data from this survey
were linked to the data from the Household Budget Survey.
