Methodological explanation for the news release:


Mortality


Statistical survey for deaths provide data for deaths according to type and cause of death and by several demographic, economic, social and other topics.

Death statistics is used as a base for analysis of population mortality, as one of the components of natural changes of population and for providing necessary parametars for estimation of future population trends. Most of statistics for cause of death were used by health authorities for analysis of pathology issues and lethal effects of medical treatments of diseases.

Scope

Statistics of deaths comprise all cases of death.

Sourse of data

In accordance with the Law on Civil registration, the reporting units are Registrar Offices responsible for Registrar books of deaths - Ministry of Justice - Department for Civil registration.

Definitions

A deceased person - is every live birth person that showed permanent disappearance of all evidence of vital functions.

An infant death - is a child who died before completion the first year og age.

Cause of death - data on causes of death are given by the medical doctors, post mortem examination doctor or coroner. Data processing in the area of mortality statistics is done in accordance with the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems 10th Revision (ICD-X).

Average age at death - this indicator is weighted arithmetic mean of the age of deaths in a given period (calendar year) and in a given territory.
