Business entities
Number of business entities  29.06.2009Number of business entities, 2008 According to the Business Register maintained by the State Statistical Office, in 2008, the number of active business entities in the Republic of Macedonia is 63 193, or this is 52.8% of the total number of registered business entities (119 697), till 31.12.2008. Breakdown by the sections of activities, the highest share of active business entities among the registered ones is in sections Health and social work 77,4%, Education 76,9 % and Public administration and defense; compulsory social security 73,9%, but the least share is in sections Other community, social and personal service activities 25,5%, Transport, storage and communication 46,% and Hotels and restaurants 46,4%. In the section Private households employing domestic staff and undifferentiated production activities of households for own use there is not any registered business entity till 2008. The data on the structure of active business entities according to the number of employed, show that the highest share of 83.7% belongs to business entities with 1-9 employed. Then follow the business entities without employed (or the entities did not provide information about employed) with 8.8 %, and then entities with 10-19 employed with 3.2%. The share of entities with 20-49 employed is 2.1%, the share of 1.9% belongs to business entities with 50-249 employed, while entities with 250 or more employed have the share of only 0.3%.
