Balance of coal by months, 2008
According to the State Statistical Office data, In 2008, in the Republic of Macedonia, were imported 320 421 tonnes
Coal, which comprised: 14 655 tonnes of Hard Coal (Anthracite, Coking Coal, Other Bituminous Coal), 260 315
tonnes of Lignite (Sub-Bituminous Coal, Brown Coal, Lignite, Peat), and 45 451 tonnes of Coke Oven Coke.
The total primary production of Lignite in 2008 was 7 630 424 tonnes.
The gross inland consumption of Lignite was 7 734 113 tonnes, from which 95.88% were used in Public thermal
power stations for production of Electrical energy, 0.48% in Autoproducer thermal power stations for production
of Heat and Electrical energy, 0.33% in Heating plants for production of Heat and 3.31% for Final energy
consumption.
The biggest final consumer of Coal with 298 418 tonnes, were the industrial sectors, as follows: 14 655 tonnes of
Hard Coal, 236 549 tonnes of Lignite and 47 214 tonnes of Coke Oven Coke.
