Mortality in 2009 increased by 0.4% compared with 2008
Increased number of deaths
According to the State Statistical Office data, in the Republic of Macedonia the number of deaths increased by 0.4% compared with the previous year and there were 19 060 deaths. The structure by sex shows higher male participation, 10 040 or 52.7% of the total number of deaths.
Average age of deaths higher for females
The average age of death for males was 68.6 years, while for females it was 73.5 years, which means that higher average age by 4.9 years was registered for females.
Increased number of infant deaths
It is noteworthy that the number of infant deaths increased by 24.7% compared with the previous year, and there were 278 infant deaths. The participation of infant deaths in the total number of deaths was 1.5% (per 100 deaths).
Highest participation of deaths due to circulatory diseases
Like previous years, by (ICD-IX), the highest number of deaths were due to circulatory diseases (I00-I99) which represent 57.9% of the total number of deaths, followed by neoplasms (C00-D48) with 19.3%, while with 3.7% were represented cases where death was due to endocrine, nutritional and metabolic diseases (E00-E90), etc.
