Enterprise births, 2015


According to the data of the State Statistical Office, there were 6 877 enterprise births recorded in 2015, which is 10.3% of the
total number of active enterprises in the Republic of Macedonia whose main activity according to the National Classification
of Activities - NKD Rev.2 is in the sectors of activity from B to S1). In comparison with 2014, the number of enterprise births
decreased by 4.0%.


Analysed by sector of activity, the biggest share (30.7%) of enterprise births was recorded in the sector “Wholesale and retail
trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles”, followed by “Manufacturing” (12.2%), “Accommodation and food service
activities” (11.5%) and “Other service activities” (9.5%).


The data on the structure of enterprise births by legal form show that the majority were enterprises categorised as limited
liability companies and joint stock companies (70.1%), although there was a decrease of 4.8% in comparison with the previous
year.


Enterprise deaths, 2015


Preliminary data on enterprise deaths show that there were 6 249 enterprise deaths in 2015, or 9.3% of the total number of
active enterprises. The sector with the highest share in enterprise deaths (35.7%) was “Wholesale and retail trade; repair of
motor vehicles and motorcycles”, while according to their legal form, the highest share of enterprise deaths was registered in
enterprises categorised as limited liability companies and joint stock companies.


Enterprises born in 2010-2014 still operating in 2015


Of the total number of enterprises born in 2010, 32.7% were still operating in 2015. The greatest survival rate was observed
among the newly born enterprises in the sectors “Human health and social work activities” (72.5%) and “Professional, scientific
and technical activities” (54.2%).


Data show that 40.8% of the enterprises born in 2011, 43.6% of those born in 2012, 67.2% of the newly born enterprises in 2013
and 81.3% of the enterprises born in 2014 survived in 2015. The highest survival rates were observed in newly born enterprises
in the sectors “Financial and insurance activities” (born in 2011 and 2014), “Professional, scientific and technical activities”
(enterprises born in 2012) and “Education” (enterprises born in 2013).
