Enterprise births, 2016
According to the data of the State Statistical Office, there were 7132 enterprise births recorded in 2016, which is 10.4% of the total
number of active enterprises in the Republic of Macedonia whose main activity according to the National Classification of Activities -
NKD Rev.2 is in the sectors of activity from B to S 1) .

In comparison with the previous year, an increase of 3.7% has been registered.
Analysed by sector of activity, the biggest share (28.4%) of enterprise births was recorded in the sector “Wholesale and retail trade
repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles”, followed by ”Manufacturing” (12.2%), “Accommodation and food service activities” (10.5%), and” Other service activities” sector (10.2%).
The data on the structure of enterprise births by legal form show that the majority were enterprises categorized as limited liability
companies and joint stock companies (68.8%).
Enterprise deaths, 2016 Preliminary
Of the total number of active enterprises there were 9.7% i.e.6 648 enterprise deaths in 2016.Reviewed by activity sector, the highest share (35.7%) of the enterprise deaths was recorded in the sector “Wholesale and retail trade repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles” and according to their legal form, the highest share of enterprise deaths belongs to those categorised as limited liability companies and joint stock companies.
Enterprises born in 2011-2015 still operating in 2016
Of the total number of enterprises born in 2011, 37.1% were still operating in 2016. The greatest survival rate was observed among
the newly born enterprises in the sectors, "Human health and social work activities" (71.6%) and “Financial and insurance activities
"(66.7%).
In 2016, 38.0% of the active enterprises born in 2012, 58.5% of those born in 2013, 70.7% of the enterprises born in 2014 and 83.0% of those in 2015, survived. The highest survival rates were observed in newly born enterprises in the sectors "Human health and social work activities" (born in 2011,2012 and 2015), “Education” (enterprises born in 2013) and “Financial and insurance activities (enterprises born in 2014, without 64.20class).
