Economy-wide material flow accounts, 2014 and 2015 - preliminary data

The State Statistical Office of the Republic of Macedonia is publishing for the first time the results of the calculation of economic
material flow accounts in the Republic of Macedonia.
The economic material flow accounts are one of the physical modules of Eurostat's programme of environmental economic
accounts.
This release presents the economic accounts of the material flows, which include domestic extraction, physical trade balance:
imports - for total trade, exports - for total trade and domestic material consumption.

Domestic extraction used
The domestic extraction in 2015 was 15 626 thousand tonnes.

Direct material input
The direct material input indicator measures the direct input of materials for use in an economy (biomass, fossil fuels, minerals,
etc.). In 2015, the direct material input was 21 770 thousand tonnes, which is 29 thousand tonnes more than 2014. In 2015, fossil
energy materials, raw and processed had the highest share (33.8%) in direct material input.

Domestic material consumption
In 2015, the domestic material consumption was 19 230 thousand tonnes, which is 41 thousand tonnes more compared to
2014.

Physical trade balance
In 2015, the physical trade balance was 3 604 thousand tonnes, which is 188 thousand tonnes more than in 2014.
