Environmental taxes, 2014 and 2015

The State Statistical Office of the Republic of Macedonia for the first time is publishing the results of the calculation of
environmental taxes in the Republic of Macedonia.


Environmental taxes are regarded as an economic instrument for controlling pollution and managing resources, and they are
conceived to influence the behaviour of business entities, producers and consumers.


In the Republic of Macedonia, a total of 10 527.4 million denars of environmental taxes were paid in 2015, which is 16.4% more
than in 2014. The largest share in the environmental taxes was that of energy taxes 64.6%, followed by transport taxes 34.5% and
pollution and resource taxes related to the exploitation of natural resources (water, forests, wild flora and fauna) 0.9%.


In 2015, environmental taxes represented about 1.9% of the gross domestic product, which is 0.2 percentage points more than
in 2014.
