According to the State Statistical Office data, in 2010, in the Republic of Macedonia there were 24 507 births, of which 24 296 live births and 211 stillbirths. In 2010, compared to the previous year, the number of live births increased by 612 children or 2.6%. The structure of live births by sex was dominated by boys with 52.0%, which means there were 108.3 boys per 100 girls. According to the mothers’ age, most (60.8%) were live births to mothers aged 20-29. The mean age of mothers for all live births was 27.8 years, while the mean age of mothers at first birth was 26.0, which represents a slight increase compared to the previous year. Children were most frequently born to mothers from the 1982 birth cohort.

It is noteworthy that there were a significant number of births among the young female population.

In 2010, there were 26 live births to mothers under 15 years of age. In 2010, there were 2 958 illegitimate live births, which represents 12.2% of the total number of live births.
