Survey on foreign tourists-survey at accommodation establishments, 2016

 


The survey on foreign tourists – Survey at accommodation establishments is conducted in accordance to the Law on
State Statistics (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia no. 54/97, 21/07, 51/11, 104/13, 42/14, 192/15 and 27/16)
and the Programme for Statistical Surveys 2013-2017 (“Official Gazette of the Republic of Macedonia no. 20/13, 24/14,
13/15 and 7/16), as well as in accordance with the Regulation no. 692/2011 of the European Parliament and the Council,
according to which the State Statistical Office is authorized for the preparation of methodologies, instruments for conducting,
collecting, processing, analysing and publishing of the statistical data. The survey was organized in cooperation with
the staff in the accommodation establishments (receptionists).
This survey has been conducted on a regular basis since 1980. The last available data in the State Statistical Office
are from 2009.
The survey conducted in 2016 provides data on consumption, structure and social characteristics, length of stay
and way of organisation of foreign tourists’ travels. The survey was carried out in the accommodation establishments
with a representative sample on a highest level of the marks (the sample covered 1617 tourists, out of which 1550 were
surveyed).
Tables are produced from the processed data, parts of which are presented in this publication. By using these data
and by comparing them with the data from the existing monthly and annual tourism statistics, the users are enabled to
prepare appropriate analyses on tourism and revenues coming from tourism.
